Bonus Post for IF THIS HOUSE COULD TALK

Charles J.D. Koester’s nineth birthday was memorable. When he was four, Charley was given a toy horse he called Old Hobby because he loved horses so much. As his birthday approached, he gave the family many hints about how nice it would be to have a real pony.

Charley’s big sisters, Tinnie and Jennie, teased him that morning when there was no horse. Charley in his good humor tied his hobby horse to one of the apple trees and called them to see his pony!

After a while, Philip, one of Charley’s Schmidt cousins, brought a black pony all saddled and bridled up the street. When Charley learned that it was his, he was so surprised that he could hardly speak. He spent the day riding the pony up and down Broadway.

The Koester House Museum & Gardens has many family treasures such as Charley’s toy horse, Old Hobby. Hope you will stop by to see the treasures that the museum holds.  Our hours are 10 - 4 on Tuesday - Saturday, and 1 - 4 on Sunday. from April - end of October.
